Surah Al-Isra, Verse 23:
And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and goodness to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) "Ugh" nor chide them, and speak to them a generously. My parents after 36 years of their marriage, are now visiting each married child in USA. All of my siblings live in different states and this is how they planned their old age vacation. How charming and how impressive. As young adult, they would have thought about roaming Paris, planning honeymoon in Switzerland. But how age changes our interest and our sense of entertaining our selves. They scream with joy when they see their grandchildren crawling, babbling, dripping and messing around. How much love Allah has created between the one's who share common blood? "ﻭﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻳﺤﺐ ﻣﻨﺎ ﺃﻛﺜﺮ ﻣﻦ ﻭﺍﻟﺪﻳﻨﺎ and Allah loves us more than our parents, 72 times more than our mother." I often listen to my old parents talking to each other, my papa says to my mother "Naseem I am scared if I am leaving behind any successors in this world?" and my mom says "yes, your children." How beautiful this can be? how enchanting to do the end of our lives like this. Raising up my little baby is very challenging for me. And my constant calls to my mother, mom how did you do it? and she replies "every mother does it, do not give up." I think they have done their duty, upbringing us with excellent education and moral manners. Now we are repeating the same yet only in a different spec of time. Thus Quran states Surah Al-Isra, Verse 24: And make yourself submissively gentle to them with compassion, and say: O my Lord! have compassion on them, as they brought me up (when I was) little. We all love our parents. May Allah help us in building more love with our distant ones in duniya (world) and grant us all the chance of giving the love back to our parents and our children. May Allah show Mercy on us like we show mercy on His creation. Ameen Regards, Dr.Minaam Jamil
