CONSTIPATION IN ADULTS & CHILDREN
Our body eliminates waste through 5 organs
1. Skin
2. Lungs
3. Liver
4. Kidney
5.Colon
When there is a toxic overload the organs do not function properly to eliminate the waste products.
How quickly we can eliminate our toxins and waste products from our body depends on Our movements, activity, water intake, diet, our emotions, and overall lifestyle.
If we do not use our Bowel systems naturally and depend on other organs, they becomes dependent on laxatives and purgatives and lose their function.
The more Salt in our diet, the more body depletes itself of water. Himalayan salt, Pink salt & Celtic salt are some mineral rich salts. Whereas commercial salt is only NaCl which works in a negative way on hydration status of the body. So think to change your salt?
Traditionally Chinese drink 1 litre of water every morning in order to avoid constipation.
Digestive disorders represent nature's plea for us to return to real, whole foods, foods grown in healthy soil and from animals that graze on healthy pasture. When we eat processed and imitation foods, we are, in essence, polluting the finely tuned ecosystem of the gut. Fermented foods, such as sauerkraut & cultured milk (yogurt, kefir, kimchi, pickles----- our Achar!) are vital to any treatment of digestive disorders. Our Pakistani food are rich in fiber.
GRAINS - either refined or whole- should be kept to a minimum until the condition resolves & eaten only after PROPER PREPARATION -SOAKING, SPROUTING OR SOUR LEAVENING- so they are easy to digest.
Beet Kvass, lacto-fermented ginger ale & other enzyme rich beverages should accompany every meal.
BONE BROTHS make digestion easier
CELTIC SEA SALT provide minerals needed for enzyme structure.
FOR CONSTIPATION & HEMORRHOIDS (ANAL FISSURE) use 1 tablespoon of freshly ground flax seeds mixed into 1-2cups of warm water every morning. This drink softens the stool in addition to providing valuable omega-3 fatty acids so beneficial to our overall health.
Coconut oil, taken 2 tablespoon (adults) 1 tablespoon (children) as melted oil mixed with a little water, twice daily, can have a very positive effect on constipation as the short & medium chain fatty acids promote beneficial flora in the gut and colon
Finally for all digestive orders, I have found Dr. Price’s high vitamin butter oil therapy to be useful (grass-fed butter and introduce animal fats, so think of changing the cooking oil you use?) particularly for digestive tracts that have been badly damaged from Celiac disease or treatment with chemotherapy & radiation
SOME NOURISHING TRADITIONS:
IN CHRONIC CONSTIPATION & EXPERIENCING PAINFUL ANAL FISSURES SOME LAXATIVES ARE PRESCRIBED (PROPER DOSAGE MUST BE ASKED FROM YOUR PHARMACIST)
Sometimes very fibrous vegetables like Squash or Sweet potatoes can also constipate a child, so consume moderately.

SOME NOURISHING TRADITIONS:
- Triphala 2 to 3 teaspoon (adults) 1teasponn (children) https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/triphala#TOC_TITLE_HDR_2
- Ajwaein seeds (Bishop’s weed) Half a teaspoon add to warm milk at night. Sieve the seeds out. Stimulates Bowel movements.
- Overnight Soaked Black Raisins
- FOR BABIES AND CHILDREN: Prunes or plums soaked overnight, or make prune juice or purree from the soaked mixture.
- Check for vitamin D deficiency: When vitamin D is less changes of constipation increase. Because vitamin D is a precursor to strong immunity. It helps release toxins too
- If the child is eating “Iron Fortified cereals” chances of constipation increase because iron causes constipation
- Rice cereals have a very high content of Arsenic, which also causes constipation
- Gluten free cereals are better, try to avoid soy products.
- Mix fruit and vegetable juices to increase fiber content (for the time being, I am highly against juicing fruits) Juicing vegetables provide prebiotics and fibrous content on which healthy bacteria grow!
- Apple and Pear juice for infants and babies can have 2 effects; either they help in constipation or worsen constipation
- Increase water content which will help soften the stool.
IN CHRONIC CONSTIPATION & EXPERIENCING PAINFUL ANAL FISSURES SOME LAXATIVES ARE PRESCRIBED (PROPER DOSAGE MUST BE ASKED FROM YOUR PHARMACIST)
- OSMOTIC TYPE LAXATIVE: Miralax 17 Gram Oral Powder Packet: 1tablespoon for an older child can draw a lot of water to soften the stool which is stuck for many days. PHYSILLUM HUSK (ISPAGHOL) can be used with A LOT OF WATER or it can also cause more pain in excretion of stool.
- GASTROFIBER by Standard Process, 3 capsules 1-2 times a day (for adults)
- LUBRICANTS: Mineral oils which we can ingest to lubricate the intestinal tract in order to avoid Anal Fissures.
- LUBRICANT LAXATIVE: Pediatric Glycerine Suppository (to be used in the anus)
- LOTS OF FLUID AND ALL OTHER FORMS OF FLUIDS (OTHER THAN WATER) PLEASE AVOID, UNLESS VEGETABLE JUICES
Sometimes very fibrous vegetables like Squash or Sweet potatoes can also constipate a child, so consume moderately.
